CHP CUSTOM-MADE AVR TEST SETS
Shown below are two first generation custom test sets used by CHP and State of California DGS Telecom radio shops to service and test the GE Executive II vehicular repeater. These were used up to the time of the adoption of the GE RVR Series repeater units, which occurred at about the same time as the adoption of the RANGR radio. At that time, a modernized version of this test set was deployed, which was accomplished by modifying the VRTU-111 to accommodate the new GE equipment. A bulletin dated March 13, 1990 described modifying the unit for use with the new GE equipment, after which it would no longer function on the original GE repeaters. After this modification, a new overlay was stuck to the panel, which had new switch labels. Therefore, the "old" boxes, as shown below, did not have the overlay. The modified, "new" boxes, have the overlay.

The AVRT-112 box shown below takes the place of the GE mobile repeater unit to test the rest of the system.
The VRTU-111 box shown below is to test the GE repeater unit alone.
